WHY I DECLARE GOD'S PROMISES...
Updated: Oct 29, 2018
When your world turns upside down, where do you turn? First, I broke down...then, I started digging in God's word.

When I discovered my oldest son wanted to go his own way, leaving our family and his faith behind, I was undone. I knew I needed to intercede like never before, but what would that look like? Thank the Lord I knew how to pray God’s word. The only verse I knew off the top of my head was Proverbs 22:6: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Well, you can be sure I’ve prayed that scripture a million times! But I knew I had a lot to learn if I was going to become an expert at using my only spiritual weapon, the word of God (Ephesians 6:17, 18).
As I collected more and more biblical promises in my quest to fight for my son, my scripture prayers began to sound more like declarations. What does it mean to declare? It means you’re stating something emphatically, with authority. You’re saying something is true in a firm, deliberate way. Think about the few times in history our congress has voted to “declare war.” When that announcement was made, it shook our enemies to the core! The same thing is true when we “declare” God’s word. God knows we are serious, and the enemy knows we mean business! IT’S ON NOW!
Here are 5 reasons to start declaring God’s word over your situation:
1. Jesus Emphasized the Power of our Words
“For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” Matthew 12:37
2. The Word of God Creates Things (opportunities, circumstances, provision, protection etc.)
You will also declare a thing, and it will be established for you; So light will shine on your ways. Job 22:28
3. The Word of God Creates Life (Speak life over things that appear dead )
Death and life are in the power of the tongue. Prov. 18:21
4. It is my Life’s Purpose (My mom always says, “This is why I’m still alive. I’m here to pray for my grandchildren and great-grandchildren.”)
I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. Psalm 118:17
5. I am Encouraged (Fear and discouragement will be your greatest enemies, but God’s word will release faith, shielding you from their attacks.)
Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad. Proverbs 12:25
When we declare God’s word over something, it doesn’t mean we’re blind to the reality of the situation. Instead, it means we believe God is able to transform our present day circumstances by the power of his word. God is not trapped in time as we are, so if God’s word says something will happen, we must trust Him because God sees the finished work.
Now, start declaring God’s promises over your situation and watch God turn that thing around!
